Kintyre has many recreational opportunities for the tourist and business traveller alike, with three golf courses including the world famous Machrihanish Course, sailing on Campbeltown Loch and the Kilbrannan Sound; Angling; Bowling and one of the best Surfing beaches on the West Coast of Scotland. The area was also steeped in history from the first settlers in Scotland, to the St Columba's landing, to the first transatlantic radio broadcast, made at Machrihanish. There are many places of interest that can be visited, such as the Cave Painting of the Crucifixion which can be found on Davaar Island, painted in 1887 by a local artist Archibald Mackinon.
